Waitrose win the BFREPA Retailer of the Year Award 2013!

20 November 2013

Waitrose were announced as winner of the Retailer of the Year Award at this year’s BFREPA Free Range egg Awards.  The award was presented to Richard McGinn, Waitrose Poultry and Eggs buyer, at the 2013 BFREPA Free Range Conference held on 20th November at The National Motorcycle Museum.

Stonegate nominated Waitrose in order to highlight and recognise the achievements Waitrose have made in both the growth and development of free range production with their British Blacktail breed.

Back in 1993 Waitrose worked in collaboration with Stonegate to develop and launch a free range egg from a hardy and vigorous breed of hen that would thrive in a Free Range environment.

And so the Columbian Blacktail story began. Over the past 20 years, developments into the brand have changed and shaped what we see in store today.  The most recent changes have seen packaging redesigns that adds vibrancy to the egg fixture, along with a change of designation for the brand to British Blacktail, putting emphasis on the strongest selling points of the breed – superior free range birds laying great eggs on British farms.

Continued investment into their egg range ensures Waitrose free range eggs maintain a powerful and attractive brand identity that encourages loyal customers to keep coming back, time and time again while encouraging new Waitrose fans to try their great eggs.

Stonegate are delighted that Waitrose have been awarded retailer of the year by BFREPA, Chris Moreman, Sales and Marketing Director for Stonegate, says “Waitrose are doing a great job with their Free Range eggs and always working in collaboration with their egg supplier, so it is really pleasing to see them receive industry recognition”.
