Waitrose take home Supermarket of the Year Award

11 October 2007

The winners were announced at a gala dinner and awards ceremony held on Thursday 11th October at the Natural History Museum in London. The event was hosted by TV presenter and journalist Richard Johnson, and revealed the country's top achievers when it comes to the treatment of animals in the fashion, cosmetics, and food industries.

As shoppers become more aware of the origin of consumer items and the processes they go through, reaching the conscientious consumer is becoming an increasingly important element of every marketing strategy. As a result, the RSPCA established the RSPCA Good Business Awards to encourage improvements in companies' retail policies

The Awards aim to provide consumers with guidance on which companies have positively considered animal welfare.
Now in their third year, the Awards are designed to set a benchmark for animal welfare in business - and are a unique opportunity for companies to key in to what consumers are calling for.

Heather Jenkins, Buying Director, Meat, Poultry, Fish, Dairy, Frozen & Eggs was delighted. 'We work closely with all our farmers and suppliers to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare,' she said. 'This award comes at a challenging time for British farming, and is a very welcome recognition of our suppliers' forward-thinking and collaborative approach.'
